Chinnor’s skatepark took off in spectacular fashion yesterday (May 4). A crowd, arriving from far and wide and numbering in the hundreds, enjoyed a packed afternoon which featured demonstrations from leading riders and competitions for all ages.
The reception for the new facility was one of unanimous praise. Bournemouth’s Isaac José, the 2025 European Scooter Champion, Junior Men’s Park Category, remarked: ‘I really liked the skate park. It’s been well put together and the community seems really great. I love how smooth the concrete is and the ramps are just the perfect size to learn on.
Said 11-year old Frankie who had come from Brighton and was attending his third such event in as many days, ‘It’s really good,’ adding praise for Maverick, the company responsible for designing and building the park.
Local praise came from another talented skateboarder, 16-year old Jesse of Thame: ‘I think the Chinnor skatepark is really nice. It’s got such a good atmosphere and you’ve got the windmill right there. It’s wonderful to skate on with great transition, an awesome stair set and really good rails. You should really come and try it out.’
Maggie Mackenzie, chair of Chinnor Parish Council, launched the event before handing over to Geoff Else, the energetic host for the day. She recognised the work of past and present councils with a special mention for Councillors Rich Gray and Sharon Edwards ‘for getting us over the line’. She also praised the work of local residents and parents who had helped to bring the park to fruition and pointed out how Maverick had ‘done a fantastic job on time and on budget’.
There was little doubt that everyone present agreed with her sentiments.
